Do you know that we have an amazing and unique laboratory that checks the quality and safety of agricultural products? What is unique? The fact is that this is the first most technically “advanced” laboratory in the countries of the former USSR!

Fully equipped with the most modern equipment to conduct a number of unique studies that allow scientists to make sure that the product is of high quality. By the way, it is this laboratory that provides information about the presence of GMOs in products. Using laboratory equipment when examining any biological sample that contains DNA, you can obtain data with 99% certainty from which plant or animal the material was obtained.
During my visit, scientists examined red caviar to see if the product matches its description. Those. Using genome decoding technology, they were able to determine the species of fish from which this caviar was obtained. It turned out to be coho salmon caviar (Oncorhynchus kisutch).
The purpose of my visit was to familiarize myself with the capabilities of the laboratory in the field of genetics. Genetic scientists of this unit work wonders: they obtain sturgeon fry that are 100% female and determine the genotypes of the producers in order to prevent inbreeding during reproduction.
It was for these purposes that a small RAS was installed in this establishment with the ability to raise fry, as well as incubate fry.
This aquaculture system is in a “damp” state because the main components were not made very well. Since we are interested in collaborating with the laboratory in the field of breeding tilapia (namely, super males that produce male offspring), we decided to take patronage of this ASD and bring everything in order and in working order. You’ll have to work a little hard and change a lot, but I’m sure it’ll be worth it.
Also on the basis of this RAS we will have the opportunity to test the food we have developed. I forgot to write that at the laboratory there is a department that is engaged in the cultivation of insects for the purpose of obtaining feed meal. We will try to grow fish with fishmeal substitutes. In principle, this is a global trend, because soon there will not be enough fishmeal for everyone.
These are the things in our science! Scientists are working, there are opportunities to carry out high-quality work. We just need to set them the right and necessary tasks.
